As Windows XP near its death, 1E CEO asserts the only viable approach left is Zero-Touch Windows Migration

Posted on 1 April 2014

Sumir Karayi, the CEO of 1E, the global leader in IT efficiency software, today claimed that 1E’s ‘Zero-Touch Windows Migration’ is the only remaining “sensible” option for businesses looking to migrate from Windows XP.

With the cut-off of Windows XP support only days away, 1E has thrown down the gauntlet: “Given that 1E can migrate businesses from Windows XP over four times faster than the nearest competitor,” Sumir claims, “there really is only one option remaining for businesses looking to migrate in a timely fashion.”

On Tuesday 8 April 2014, Microsoft Windows XP support expires, and organizations who have not migrated to a newer version of the OS run the increased risk of security vulnerabilities. “Windows XP obsolescence is a more serious issue than many realise,” explains Sumir.

“Businesses that haven’t migrated are opening their data to a clear threat. As Windows XP becomes obsolete few applications now support the Operating System, and companies are jeopardizing their productivity and ultimately profitability.

“Many businesses that are attempting to shore up their defences, instead of migrating away from Windows XP, are installing security and support measures that are eye-wateringly expensive.

For those companies that are taking out bespoke Windows XP support from Microsoft are facing costs of $200 per PC this year, with that figure more than doubling for every year after.

This means that from April 2014, a company with 5000 computers still on Windows XP would be looking at a bill from Microsoft of $1 million for support alone.

“However, if you’re one of the 29% who still haven’t migrated from Windows XP, the key is not to panic; Windows XP migration can be completed a lot faster than you think using our Zero-Touch Windows Migration.”

Having migrated more than 800,000 PCs at some of the world’s largest organizations, 1E can call on its experience for reliably migrating PCs to the new OS.

1E’s automated Zero-Touch Windows Migration requires no desk-side visits in more than 90% of cases, Sumir says, “Our approach is to focus on fully automating the process across as many machines as possible, rather than partially automating the process for every machine is fundamental to achieving the speed of migration required now that XP is dead. Our totally automated approach enables organizations to migrated literally thousands of PCs per day – completely hands free.”

With the cost of Windows migrations estimated at $200 per PC using manual migration methods, with 1E migration can cost as little as $8.50 per PC. This makes Zero-Touch Windows Migration one of the most cost-effective solutions in the industry. Businesses can realise massive savings on server and operational costs, and free-up valuable IT resources.

“If there’s one lesson businesses should draw from the end of Windows XP,” added Sumir, “It should be the increasing importance of rapid, fully-automated migration. Businesses can no longer afford to slug out a migration wastefully, over a number of months or even years. With new versions of Windows being released annually, Windows migration needs to become a business as usual operation. Zero-Touch Windows Migration can help realize that.”

    What about Linux?

There is a very good chance Linux OS will run well
with older hardware with lower specs

Switch to the free, safe, secure & awesome OS:
    http://www.ubuntu.com/download

Its the worlds most popular free OS. It has free
upgrades & security updates. It has a free office suite,
LibreOffice that comes standard along with other great apps/programs.

For those who like the Windows look, I would
recommend: http://www.kubuntu.com & for older computer with lower specs
    http://www.xubuntu.com
    or http://lubuntu.net

    Or try Linux Mint: http://linuxmint.com

Because the Linux option is free & now so easy
(user friendly) one must give it a try. You have so much to gain.

Lots of people give their time, effort & money
to make these great products that they just give the world for free.
So they may not have the huge ad budgets & would need users like
us to spread the word. Although its free, you are welcome to donate
    if you like the software.

For those worried about Office 2003 support ending
    try LibreOffice or OpenOffice.

Time to check out the free, safe, secure & feature-packed LibreOffice & Thunderbird.

Its truly multi-platform & takes just a few minutes to
    install.

Try it now you its easy: http://www.libreoffice.org/download
