Will Microsoft Surface Pro 4 be a large-screened tablet?

Posted on 8 November 2014

Microsoft is reportedly working on a large-screened and the Surface Pro 4 could very well be a 13- to 14-inch tablet targeted at business and enterprise users.

Microsoft was rumoured to be working on Surface Mini, but a new report from Digitimes now claims that Redmond is working on a new member for its Surface Pro family. Microsoft’s decision of going for a larger tablet is directly a result of success of Surface Pro 3 line-up claims the report.

The site’s sources have however revealed that the plans for a larger tablet are still in its infancy and there is still a hint of uncertainty around the plans and chances are that Microsoft might not go ahead with the tablet altogether.

Reports of a new member in the Surface Pro family are in stark contrast to previous reports wherein it was said that Redmond may not continue with the tablet at all. This is because of lackluster sales of both Surface Pro and Surface Pro 2 series of tablets.

Because of high pricing, sales of Surface Pro range of tablets has been largely flat according to latest statistics the Windows 8 powered tablet only accounts for just 3 per cent of tablets shipped till date globally.

Surface general manager Brian Hall had earlier assured business and enterprise customers that Surface is here to stay and that they can buy with confidence. He had further said that they “are pleased to share that the following Surface Pro 3 accessories are designed with our product roadmap in mind and will be compatible with the next generation of the ‘Pro’ line of Surface.”

It remains to be seen whether Microsoft will opt for a larger tablet or unveil the long-rumoured Surface Mini or do both next year.
