Wii U will dominate Xbox One, PlayStation 4 this Christmas claims retailer

Posted on 6 December 2013

Nintendo’s Wii U will actually outsell Xbox One and PlayStation 4 this Christmas, Play.com owner Rakuten has claimed.

This is something that hard to digest, but Rakuten expects the Wii U and iPad to sell more units than the recently released PlayStation 4 and Xbox One despite the fact that PlayStation 4 has sold over 2.1 million units globally and Xbox One has sold at least a million units.

Rakuten told MCV that it has observed 75 percent increase in sales of Wii U during October and believes that the trend will continue right through till Christmas.

Further, the retailer also claimed that its analysis of Twitter indicate that Wii U and iPad are “the most talked about presents for children this Christmas” and “brand new PlayStation 4 and Xbox One consoles are trailing in second and third place respectively behind the Wii U and iPad.”

This is despite the fact that the sales numbers for Xbox One and PlayStation 4 were no different at Play.com than at other retailers and they were sold out on Black Friday.

Rakuten’s claims seem to be over the top considering that Nintendo itself has revealed that Wii U hasn’t worked for the company, while analysts have claimed that Nintendo won’t be able to reach its expected sales target.

“considering that Nintendo itself has revealed that Wii U hasn’t worked for the company”

Stop misleading people, Nintendo have never said that.

The “Wii U” hardware still has a negative impact on Nintendo’s profits, owning mainly to its markdown in the United States and Europe – This is the official statement in the “Consolidated financial highlights” page 3 section 1 “Consolidated Operating Profits” para 5

That’s Nintendo stating the obvious regarding profits, which we all know. Thats not Nintendo saying the Wii U ‘hasn’t worked for the company’. A misleading statement implying Nintendo could be about to give up on it entirely, which they are not. Its the clsassic ‘doom and gloom’ strategy smedia use to further damage Nintendo. I wouldn’t be suprised if Sony or Microsoft pay for these write ups.
