Virgin Media hits 2 Million TiVo subscribers milestone

Posted on 15 February 2014

Virgin Media announced on Wednesday that it had signed on its 2 millionth TiVo customer, an achievement reached after three years from the launch of TiVo service in December 2010.

Virgin Media claims TiVo to be the “UK’s fastest growing pay TV service” that ended its fiscal third quarter of 2013 with 960,000 TiVo-owned subscribers and 2.93 million through the MSO deals.

Virgin Media reported that TiVo received around 519 million on-demand TV programme requests and subs rating “thumbs up” more than 30 million times in 2013. The company also noted an increase in app usage from 104 million in 2012 to 174 million in 2013 that was aided by BBC iPlayer and Netflix app.

“Reaching two million TiVo customers is a huge milestone for us and we’re delighted so many people are enjoying what we believe is the best way to watch television. Virgin Media TiVo started a revolution in the way people watch and discover great TV and it’s clear from our growth that our customers agree,” said Scott Kewley, Virgin Media’s director of digital entertainment, in a statement.

“By offering different ways to watch, with subscription and pay-per-view options, all integrated into a straightforward, intuitive experience, there’s an unrivalled world of great entertainment at our customers’ fingertips.”

Virgin Media marked this achievement by surprising the two millionth customer, a family in Manchester – Leigh and Chris Lynch with their two children – Sophie and Arielle, with a visit by Hollyoaks and Dancing on Ice star Jennifer Metcalfe.

Apart from this announcement, Virgin Media also revealed the agreement with Devicescape to make use of its WiFi network, which could eventually create Virgin Media Wi-Fi hotspots around the country for customers to access while on the move.
