Ubisoft cancels Assassin’s Creed: Unity’s seasons pass; offers free game instead

Posted on 27 November 2014

Ubisoft, in a surprise move, has cancelled season pass of Assassin’s Creed: Unity citing diminished playing experience of gamers because of bugs and technical issues. The developer has instead offered game downloads for free.

Yannis Mallat, CEO, Ubisoft Montreal & Toronto, in a press release, accepted for the bugs and technical issues despite having spent a lot of energy, time and money to develop the game. Mallat added that they have been releasing fixes to address the issues and they have release three patches in total. The CEO also promised that Assassin’s Creed Unity Dead Kings DLC will be offered for free to everyone who have bought the game.

Further, in a damage control move, the company is also offering one additional game from Ubisoft titles for free. The options include The Crew, Far Cry 4, Watch Dogs, Assassin’s Creed Black Flag, Rayman Legends, and Just Dance 2015.

Ubisoft’s decision seems to be a way to distance itself from the title and from the looks of it, Assassin’s Creed: Unity won’t be having any more DLC except the one that has already been announced.

Mallat has assured that the company will keep working towards addressing all the issues raised so far and has also asked users to keep sending in bug reports so as to enable the developers to fix those issues as well.

“We will continue striving to make Assassin’s Creed one of the most ambitious and innovative franchises on the market, and we thank you for your continued loyalty and support”, concludes Mallat.

From the concluding statement it seems that Ubisoft isn’t yet done with the Assassin’s Creed franchise and more titles are in pipeline, which it may have to launch earlier than anticipated owing to failure of Assassin’s Creed: Unity.
