Twitter announced on Thursday that it is bringing real-time interactive notifications on the Web over the course of next few weeks.
Users accessing the microblogging site through Twitter.com website will start seeing fully interactive pop-up notifications. The notification will appear in the lower-right hand corner of the user’s timeline.
“When it comes to your interactions on Twitter, it should be easy for you to stay connected to what’s relevant. With this in mind, we’re bringing you real-time notifications on twitter.com when someone is engaging with your Tweets,” read the blog post.
Users will be notified if someone has replied, retweeted or marked any of their tweets as favourite. Twitter will also let users know when they receive any message or when they get a new follower. The popup notifications will also allow users to follow back, reply to a message or favourite tweets.
Twitter users can disable the new notifications from the Settings menu or set preferences for receiving notifications.
“To make sure you’re getting the notifications you want, go to your Settings on twitter.com. That’s where you can choose what types of notifications you want to get on twitter.com and via email and mobile. If you use a Twitter app, check out your settings there too, so you can refine the types of push notifications you receive,” wrote Twitter.
This roll out comes days after the company’s launch of photocentric profiles with the Facebook-like feel that includes larger profile pictures, larger header image and the users’ most popular tweets showcased, along with the addition of three new features, ‘Best Tweets,’ ‘Pinned Tweet,’ and ‘Filtered Tweets.’
