Twitter has begun rolling out two new features – group and video messaging – for its Android and iOS users.
Until now, Twitter’s 284 million users were able to make private conversations with only one other person at a time through the Direct Messages tool, but now the new ‘group messaging’ feature will let them send direct messages to groups of up to 20 people. The micro-blogging giant says the ‘group messaging’ feature will result in users having more conversations on the platform.
“Private conversations on Twitter are a great complement to the largely public experience on the platform,” product director Jinen Kamdar, said in an online post.
“The group function lets you start conversations with any of your followers and they don’t all need to follow one another in order to chat.”
The new video feature will let Twitter users capture, share, edit and upload clips of up to 30 seconds in length. The videos will appear as thumbnails in the users’ timeline, but won’t auto play like Facebook’s news feed.
“In just a few taps you can add a video to unfolding conversations, share your perspective of a live event, and show your everyday moments instantly, without ever having to leave the app,” Kamdar said.
Twitter also recently rolled out ‘while you were away’ feature which allows users to have a quick glance of some of the important tweets they may have missed when they were offline.
The new features are expected to reach out to all Twitter users over the next few days.
