Latest reports suggest that Electronic Arts has secured Titanfall sequel’s publishing rights from Respawn Entertainment and the second iteration of the first-person shooter game will not be Microsoft exclusive.
Although EA has not officially confirmed that they have the publishing rights for Titanfall 2, if they do have them then this will mean that PlayStation and/or Nintendo fans will get a crack at the next game in the series.
An EA representative told GameSpot, “We do not comment on rumor or speculation. Right now all our focus is on supporting all the fans worldwide enjoying Titanfall.”
The original Titanfall is exclusive to just Microsoft platforms including Xbox 360, Xbox One and Windows PC. The success of Titanfall Xbox One bundle has nearly doubled Xbox One sales figures, with overall sales up 96 per cent last week.
Blake Jorgensen, EA Games CFO, previously said that Titanfall potential sequels could fall under the multiplatform umbrella “for sure”. At the end of 2013, Jorgensen announced that Titanfall was to be a Microsoft exclusive “for the life of the title”.
In October, Vince Zampella, founder of Respawn Entertainment tweeted that Respawn would eventually make games for the PlayStation 4 and said that Titanfall’s exclusivity was limited to the first game only.
In February there were rumours that Titanfall will launch for PlayStation 3, but there were no concrete evidence to support this.
“Always MS exclusive at launch, great partner and focus is good for a startup. EA made a deal for the rest, we only found out recently,” Zampella tweeted.
Titanfall for Xbox One and PC was launched on March 11. The Xbox 360 version was however delayed again today to a release on April 8.
