The Wine Society has issued two back-to-back prosecco bottle recall notices wherein it has asked consumers to return ‘potentially dangerous’ bottles on safety grounds.
In its first notice, the Society recalled three batches of its Prosecco after it received five reports (out of 15,000 bottles in three production lots) of a bottle of The Society’s Prosecco shattering while sitting in members’ wine racks. Though there have been no injuries, the Society has recalled all bottles as a precaution.
The Society revealed that though most of the bottles may already have been consumed, in in interests of its consumers it decided to recall all the bottles. This decision was made soon after the Society came across the first incidence of this problem. The Society said that it has contacted everyone who has bought this wine or who was sent this wine as a gift from the three affected lots both by e-mail and by letter, giving instructions of how to deal with the bottle or bottles while awaiting collection at the earliest possible opportunity.
In a second notice, the Wine Society revealed that it has received similar reports of a small number of bottles of Prosecco Brut I Duecento, sourced from a different supplier to The Society’s Prosecco, also shattering in members’ wine racks.
Though the incidence is very limited, the Society has made the decision to recall all remaining bottles of this wine and has also informed the Food Standards Agency (FSA) of this recall. The Society adds that it has all the records about the consumers of this wine as well and has contacted them through emails and/or letters giving instructions of how to store the bottle or bottles safely while arrangement for the collection at the earliest possible opportunity is made.
