Tesco managed to sell nearly 100,000 Hudl tablets during the month of December taking the sales tally to 400,000 units during 2013.
Tesco had already sold as many as 300,000 units on the build up to Christmas and at times even struggled to keep enough stock on shelves to cater to the increasing demand. Michael Cornish, Tesco’s Chief Digital Officer revealed just before the festive season that the Hudl has garnered huge success.
“They are flying off the shelves so quickly it has run out of stock twice,” he said at the time. The tablets are back in stock and available through Tesco’s online store.
Tesco met with intense competition from local retailers after Argos, Aldi, Carphone Warehouse launched their own budget-friendly tablets. However, it seems that the competition didn’t dent Tesco’s sales during 2013.
Earlier Tesco announced that due to the immense success of the Hudl, it was working on a second generation ‘enhanced’ Hudl, which will be launched sometime in 2014.
