Budget-friendly Android tablets have been in huge demand lately and UK is no exception to this. Tesco cashed-in on the demand with its £119 Hudl and according to reports the tablet has been flying off the shelf faster than any other tablet in the same segment and has sold an estimated 300,000 units since its launch. Owing to the huge success, Tesco has revealed that it is working on a second generation ‘enhanced’ Hudl, which will be launched sometime in 2014.
The current version of Hudl already packs 1.5GHz quad-core processor, 1GB RAM, 16GB onboard storage, and a 1,440 x 900 pixel resolution screen. What the ‘enhanced’ Hudl will incorporate is still a mystery, but it won’t be too far-fetched to assume that the tablet will pack a faster processor, improved screen resolution – probably full HD resolution, latest Android and better storage.
Tesco’s Chief Executive Phillip Clarke told The Guardian that they have been surprised by the response which Hudl has received and the sales have been more than what they “had originally planned in total in the run-up to Christmas”.
The retailer’s Chief Digital Officer Michael Comish told the MailOnline that Hudl has been “flying off the shelves” and that Tesco has run out of stock twice.
Just like Amazon is doing with its Kindle Fire range of tablets, Tesco may also be planning to promote its other own branded consumer electronics goods through Hudl considering the huge sales it has garnered.
