Facebook is gradually losing its charm and glory in favour of other social networks like Tumblr, Pinterest and Instagram, new report claims.
According to latest statistics coming from research firm Globalwebindex, Tumblr is turning into being the fastest growing social network with a whopping 120 percent growth rate in terms of active user base over the past six months, followed by Pinterest accounting for 111 percent growth rate.
Even LinkedIn, YouTube and Google+ reportedly grew faster than Facebook which accounted for a mere 2 percent growth rate.
Alarmingly, the Global Web Index statistics, based on interviews conducted among 170,000 users in 32 countries, suggest that Facebook is gradually losing its appeal, particularly among teenage users.
The research report revealed that around 66 per cent of teenagers aged 16-19 in the US and Britain have admitted that they were using Facebook less frequently, with 45 per cent of them claiming the site has become less interesting than it used to be, 37 per cent admitting they are bored with it and a further 18 per cent citing it is no longer cool.
“Even though Facebook has more users, activity such as photo sharing and messaging has fallen off by 20 percentage points in the last two years,” the findings showed.
The report found that although Facebook’s active user number has dropped, its Messenger is still very popular among teens, leaving behind even WhatsApp in terms of most used messaging app. Snapchat has turned out to be teenagers’ current love, accounting for a whopping 56 percent hike in user growth.
“Snapchat has the youngest audience of any social app and usage ranges from 25 per cent to 40 per cent of all online teenagers in key markets such as the US, Britain and Canada,” the report added.
