TaiG releases iOS 8.3 jailbreak tool

Posted on 24 June 2015

Chinese developer group TaiG has released the iOS 8.3 jailbreak tool allowing users of iPhone 4S, 5, 5S,6 and 6 Plus; iPad 2 or later; iPad Mini or later and fifth generation iPod Touches to jailbreak their devices and remove app restrictions imposed by Apple.

The iOS 8.3 jailbreak comes as a relief to all those iOS 8.1.2 users who have been stuck on the version of the OS for the fear that they will lose the jailbreak once updated to iOS 8.3. There are a few things that you should know about the jailbreak:

Cydia not yet compatible

Just like what happened when the previous jailbreak was release, Cydia isn’t compatible with iOS 8.3 as Jay Freeman (Saurik), the developer of Cydia, wasn’t given any advance notice before the release of the latest jailbreak. This means that you won’t be able to any jailbreak tweaks until Cydia is updated to work with iOS 8.3.

Only Windows, No Mac OS X for now

TaiG haven’t released a Mac version of their jailbreak tool and so if you are having a Mac OS X system, you will have to wait for a while before you can jailbreak your iDevice(s). This is almost always the case with jailbreak tools that a Windows version is released first followed by a Mac release, but it shouldn’t take long before the Mac version is released.

iOS 8.4 round the corner

TaiG has released the jailbreak just days before a possible release of iOS 8.4 giving Apple some time to peek into the iOS 8.3 jailbreak tool and possibly patch the loopholes exploited by TaiG. This means that you may want to update iOS 8.3 as soon as possible if you want to apply the jailbreak and steer clear of the iOS 8.4 until a jailbreak tool is released for iOS 8.4.
