Sony, on Monday, took the wraps off its new flagship smartphone dubbed the Xperia Z4, in Japan.
The new high-end Xperia handset features an aluminium frame and a 5.2-inch full-HD (1080×1920 pixels) Triluminos display with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels. The Z4 is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 810 octa-core processor, which is coupled with 3GB RAM, 32GB of internal storage and a microSD card slot that supports up to 128GB of expansion.
The Android 5.0 Lollipop-based handset is equipped with a 5.1 megapixel Sony Exmor R wide angle camera on the front and a 20.7 megapixel Sony Exmor RS camera on the back that is capable of shooting 4K video. The Z4 also features G Lens on top of the rear camera and BIONZ image processor to deliver high-end image results.
The phone includes an IPX5/IPX8 equivalent certification, which makes it waterproof and IP6X certification making it a dustproof device. The maker claims that the phone can be submerged to 4.92 feet for as long as 30 minutes.
The Xperia Z4 measures just 6.9mm and weighs 144 grams. Connectivity features on the handset include Bluetooth, Wi-Fi with hotspot, 3G, 4G LTE, GPS/ A-GPS, Glonass, Micro-USB, DLNA, and NFC.
There’s a non-removable 2,930mAh battery on the Xperia Z4 which promises to deliver up to 17 hours of talk time on a 3G network. The handset will roll out in four color options including copper, white, black and aqua green.
The Sony Xperia Z4 will initially be made available only in Japan starting this summer, for an estimated price of 7,000 yen. There’s no word on the handset’s global release yet.
