Sony arranges for expedited faulty PlayStation 4 replacements

Posted on 20 November 2013

Sony sold a whopping 1 million units of PlayStation 4 within the first 24 hours of its release, but all wasn’t well in Sony’ camp as there were reports that quite a few customers received faults units.

Sony has confirmed that less than 1 percent of all PlayStation 4 units which were shipped suffer from “Blue Light of Death” or other issues. The company has however announced that using its official support line, all faulty PlayStation 4 exchanges will be expedited.

It’s definitely good news for more than 10,000 faulty PS4 system owners who now won’t have to stand in long queues to get their systems exchanged at the company’s retail stores. Andrew House, Sony Computer Entertainment CEO, has said that PS4 systems will be in good supply all throughout the coming holiday season.

The gaming console was launched with a price tag of $399 in the US and Canada on November 15. Soon after its launch, the company declared that it sold more than one million PS4 consoles to consumers within 24 hours of release marking the record of “by far the largest launch in gaming history in Canada”. PlayStation 4 is scheduled to hit Europe, Australia, and Brazil on Nov. 29.

In related PlayStation 4 news, according to IHS the BOM and manufacturing cost of the gaming console is working out to be $381 indicating that Sony may be able to breakeven on the console pricing itself very soon with its $399 price tag.
