Sony has announced it will integrate on-demand TV service YouView into its new range of 2015 Bravia TVs.
The Japanese electronics giant said starting this summer Bravia users will be able to use the simple and intuitive YouView interface to watch content from major catch-up services without needing a separate set-top box. YouView enables users to easily find content using a search functionality that browses for live, future and past TV shows.
With YouView, Sony customers will able to access more than 12,000 on-demand titles available across all the major catch up services including ITV Player, Demand 5, 4OD and the hugely popular BBC iPlayer.
Sony said that its new TV line-up will include 12 Ultra HD models that will come integrated with YouView, Android TV and Sony’s One-Flick Entertainment service.
“We are thrilled to announce a major collaboration with Sony on our first ever project to make YouView available on TVs,” said YouView CEO Richard Halton.
“This exciting YouView and Sony partnership will create a deep integration of YouView’s functionality within the new Sony TV range, built on the Android platform. It will offer everything you’d expect from YouView including our iconic seamless and easy to use TV guide, giving customers simple access to the live and catch up TV they love.”
John Anderson, UK and Ireland country head for Sony said “The way we watch TV is changing, with more demand than ever for a large range of content, when we want it, how we want it. We’re delighted to be the first manufacturer in the UK to announce the addition of YouView to our range of TVs.”
