Samsung has been granted a Galaxy Round trademark on September 30 which indicates that the consumer electronics giant is all set to launch a range of new gadgets featuring flexible / curved displays.
The Galaxy Round trademark application includes all sort of the usual list of software and hardware that you might see in a technology trademark, but two words caught our attention – “Tablet Computers; Telephones.” There is nothing special of these words, but this is just another breadcrumb that points to the possibility of a new Galaxy line of gadgets that use plastic display substrates instead of glass.
As we reported earlier, Samsung may be planning to launch a flexible display smartphone dubbed Galaxy Round as early as this week. It is believed that the new smartphone will pack more or less the same specifications as the Galaxy Note 3 as far as the internals go.
The Galaxy Round handset is expected to feature a 4.7″ AMOLED display, quad-core snapdragon processor, 2 GB RAM, 8-megapixel rear camera, Android 4.3 Jelly Bean and support for S Pen stylus.
Samsung has already confirmed that it will be launching a curved display equipped smartphone in October and according to reports it could be as early as October 10.
