After some major setbacks in 2012, OnLive is shifting its strategy for a powerful comeback with a new executive chairman, and two new cloud-based services – OnLive Go and CloudLift.
The company revealed that the former IGN chief Mark Jung will be the new executive chairman, while Gary Lauder, the investor who bought OnLive in 2012, is still at the helm.
“In this last year, we have been repositioning the company and redesigning our services for a positive business going forward,” said Mark Jung, the new executive chairman of OnLive in an interview. “We have rearchitected it to deliver a much higher value proposition for the users.”
CloudLift, which takes the cloud-streaming concept of OnLive, goes for nearly £10 per month after the free 7-day trial ends. CloudLift allows the gamers logging in with a Steam account, to save games on the cloud and continue streaming games later on a different device.
This cloud service will initially be available with 20 games including Warner Bros. popular superhero game “Batman: Arkham Asylum GOTY,” “Batman: Arkham Origins,” “Darksiders II,” “Red Faction: Armageddon,” “Saints Row IV,” “The Lego Movie Videogame,” and “Type:Rider.” The company also confirmed that “dozens more” games is planned for the coming months.
OnLive has rolled out another service “OnLive Go” that allows users to play online games such as War Thunder and Second Life on mobile devices. With OnLive Go service, players can instantly launch a cloud version of the game and play it, while the game is still being downloaded in the background.
“To implement these services, we had to do things behind the scenes to address scalability of our service, cost of our service, and its portability,” said Jung. “We had to address keeping the hardware up to date with modern technology.”
Also available is the classic PlayPack version of OnLive for £6.99 a month, which offer users with access to over 250 games.
