Nokia has halted sales of its Lumia 2520 tablet in European countries following discovery of a faulty charger which could give electric shock to users.
The travel charger in question is AC-300, which is an exclusive charger for the Lumia 2520. Nokia noted in its advisory that a total of 30,000 chargers are affected – 600 out of which have been sold in the US. Nokia has asked users of the AC-300 charger to immediately stop using the charger to avoid any electric shock hazard.
“During an internal quality control process, Nokia identified a potential product quality issue that may potentially lead to a safety concern with certain AC-300 chargers, manufactured by a third-party supplier”, Nokia wrote in its advisory.
“Under certain conditions, the plastic cover of the charger’s exchangeable plug could come loose and separate. If loose and separated, certain internal components pose a hazard of an electric shock if touched while the plug remains in a live socket.”
Jo Harlow, EVP Smart Devices at Nokia, said that there have been no reports of consumer incidents related to the AC-300 charger “product quality and safety are top priorities at Nokia,” and that the company is “working with urgency to minimize the inconvenience”.
Sales of Lumia 2520 have been suspended in Austria, Denmark, Finland, Germany, Russia, Switzerland and the UK. The tablet is still available in the US; however, the sales of the travel charger have been suspended.
