Nintendo Vans fashion line will take you back to the 90’s

Posted on 4 June 2016

Californian footwear brand Vans has teamed up with Nintendo to create a fashion line that every 90’s nerd would want to have – a full clothing range inspired by the epic 90’s video games.

This collaboration, which was first rumoured earlier this year, is proudly titled Vans x Nintendo Classic. The range includes shoes, clothes and accessories, and you can expect to find Donkey Kong, Super Mario, Zelda and Pokémon cast on them.

Some of the products also includes artwork from the first Nintendo Console, the 1980s Nintendo Entertainment System (NES).

The entire range is unisex and it is available in both adult and kids sizes. This is done by the company to make the new generation aware of the Nintendo classic designs.

As expected, new and former gamers are going gaga over this new collection. Probably because it reminds them of the good, old arcade era. The fun part was that the shoe boxes for this range have been designed to look like Nintendo consoles.

There are four variations of the classic Van footwear available in this collection – Authentic lace-up, lace-free Slip-On, high-top SK8-Hi, and clunky Old Skool. Each style is available in a variety of prints to give gamers options to choose from.

The Authentic Vans silhouette includes a Super Mario tie dye, which has an overall Mario character print, along with several power ups and the famous villain Goomba. The entire design has been done over an 8-bit tie-dye pattern. Princess Peach is also available on a similar pair.

The lace up styles include Duck Hunt and Donkey Kong. These are also trimmed with some smaller and special details like Vans waffle soles printed with ‘Game Over!’, NES controller lace caplets and Nintendo game logos on the tongue label.

While Vans classic slip-on honour Zelda by adding graphics and quotes from the famous game.

The Sk8-Hi, Old Skool and Sk8-Hi Slim which is available for women, is inspired from the classic Nintendo Console.

Though the official launch party hasn’t happened yet, the shoes are already available in the UK. While a lot of kids were excited to get this, the prices have raised some doubts.

A plain black t-shirt with Vans written in Nintendo style graphics costs £32. And a Zelda-inspired slip –on plimsoll costs £52.

This is not the first time Vans has collaborated with a company for inspiring fashion line. The footwear company partnered with Disney in 2015 to create shoes featuring Donald Duck, Winnie the Pooh and of course, Mickey Mouse.

The brand also collaborated with Star Wars to create a fashion line for all the fans of the galaxy far, far away.
