Thirty One new communities in Devon and Somerset are set to receive superfast broadband connectivity by March 2014.
Connecting Devon and Somerset is entrusted with the task of overseeing the rollout process and the programme aims to add a total of 31 new communities by March 2014 bringing the total number to 38 thereby extending the benefits of superfast broadband to over 40,000 homes and businesses.
The group is looking to extend connectivity of 24mbps and more to around 90 percent of homes and businesses by 2016 while also targeting provisioning of service under which all premises covered under the programme will be receiving connectivity with at least 2Mbps speeds.
“Alongside the private sector’s commercial roll-out, the Connecting Devon and Somerset programme aims to make superfast broadband speeds of 24Mbps and above available to around 90% of homes and businesses by the end of 2016,” the announcement read.
The group has also made available a map and a post code checker using which residents can check if their area falls under the superfast broadband limits.
Some of the 31 communities which are set to gain the fibre broadband by 2014 include Bishop’s Hull, Bridford, Comeytrowe, Dunchideock, Exminster, Hatherleigh, North Tawton, Sandford, Shobrooke, Wembdon, and West Monkton. The entire list is available here.
