Mulally has ended months of speculations of him being in the race for Microsoft’s next CEO by stating that he has no plans of leaving Ford.
While speaking with AP Mulally revealed that he will not be leaving Ford before end of 2014. This automatically puts him out of the CEO race as Microsoft wants to appoint Ballmer’s successor well before that.
“I would like to end the Microsoft speculation because I have no other plans to do anything other than serve Ford,” Mulally said in an interview.
Mulally didn’t say whether he had been in talks with Microsoft’s selection committee to discuss the opening there, but he did say that speculations of him leaving the motor company was a distraction for Ford. When asked if his statements should investor concerns about him leaving the company, he said, “You don’t have to worry about me leaving.”
Mulally had been a front runner for the CEO position and many believed that he was the ideal candidate for company’s turnaround after the recent turbulent years which saw Microsoft lag behind in the smartphone and tablet race.
