Andrew Morley, Motorola’s UK and Ireland general manager, has finally bid goodbye to the company after serving for more than seven years.
Morley first joined the American manufacturer back in June 2007 as the company’s Vice President International Marketing for Europe, Middle East, Russia, Africa, India and Asia.
“I’ve decided to leave Google Motorola,” Morley said. “It’s been great working for a company like Google, but after seven years it feels like the right time to do something new. Seven years at one place is quite a long time.”
“I have a couple of opportunities, and haven’t decided which one to take just yet. One is an MD position for a mobile related business in the UK and the other is for a European marketing director position. I’m not going to rush in to anything.”
Marcus Frost, Motorola’s senior marketing director, will be taking on UK marketing responsibilities till the company finds a suitable replacement for Morley.
Morley said he will be volunteering at the homeless shelter, Watford New Hope Trust, for the next six weeks to “put everything in perspective” before taking up a new role or responsibility.
Morley said “I agreed yesterday afternoon to work in a homeless shelter for the next six weeks. I will work with them on everything, including volunteering, helping them with their marketing and look at their fundraising. It’s completely voluntary and will help me put my feet back on the ground. It’s been on my mind for the past few months and something I want to do.”
Prior to joining Motorola, Morley served as European Marketing Director at Ford (1992-2000), Marketing Director for BSKYB (2000-2005), Chief Commercial Officer at Cable & Wireless (2005-2006) and Group Marketing Director at the Harrods Group.
Rumours are that Morley’s departure from Motorola is related to the impending sale of Motorola to Chinese firm Lenovo.
However, Morley isn’t the first big name calling it quits this year. Motorola’s CEO Dennis Woodside also left the company in February to become COO at Dropbox.
