Moto G KitKat update causing connectivity, battery issues claim owners

Posted on 7 March 2014

Recent Moto G KitKat update is seemingly creating lot many issues as users have flocked to Motorola support forums complaining about connectivity issues such as call drops, unavailability of data connection and even switching on of airplane mode automatically.

The issue seems to be spread across regions as there have been multiple instances of such complaints from India, Europe and Middle East.

Moto G owners are complaining of call drops and intermittent SIM card registration failure messages. Some users have claimed that a quick reboot resolves the issues temporarily, but others have claimed that restarting the phone doesn’t help.

The issue isn’t limited to brand new micro-SIM cards or regular sim cut to micro as users of both types of cards are complaining about such behaviour. There have been instances of rapid battery drain as reported by some users.

“My phone is intermittently dropping all network signals, and in some cases even losing connection with the phone’s SIM card”, complains one forum user. “Another issue is with battery. Without using any apps or any call battery goes discharged in 3-4 hours. and to charge it takes too long time”, the user added.

“Since the update my signal has been fine but I now have no mobile internet on 3g or 2g. Any one else having this problem?”, complains another.

“The bug with the signal seems to be so much better after the patch but the problem i am having now is with the battery. The battery drain is so much quicker after the patch and just now the battery went from about 65% to 0% whilst doing nothing.”

Note I can’t even check my email without my phone battery going down below 50% go from a near full battery.. What gives??! And in the time it took me to read this article and write my response my battery went down to nothing!

I’ve just lost my battery in 10 minutes! It was at almost full, and it suddenly drop to zero for any reason! I was pretty surprised when I opened the phone and it was without battery… Incredible.

Mine has been doing the battery drop twice this week. The first time, the battery was at 85%, and just this morning it had been fully charged overnight and still on charge. Luckily, the second time, the phone somehow recognised that it did have battery power and said “fully charged” after a minute.
