Microsoft Xbox One surpassed Sony PS4 sales on Black Friday, new report claims

Posted on 1 December 2014

Microsoft’s Xbox One accounted for majority of the Black Friday gaming console sales, new report claims.

According to latest statistics by market-research firm InfoScout, Microsoft’s Xbox One made up for almost 53 per cent of all Black Friday console sales as against Sony’s PlayStation 4, which managed to capture 31 per cent of the sales.

Microsoft’s older console, the Xbox 360, made up to the third spot with 9 per cent of the sales. So, all in all, Microsoft’s gaming consoles accounted for 62 per cent of the total Black Friday console sales.

Bundling of the Xbox One with big gaming titles like Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag and Assassin’s Creed: Unity as well as a recent price cut which dropped the gaming console’s price to $330 can be the major reasons behind Microsoft’s dominance over the PlayStation 4, which was made available for $400 bundled with Bungie’s sci-fi shooter Destiny or with the re-release of Grand Theft Auto V and The Last of Us.

InfoScout collected this data from 180,000 purchasers who were entitled to get rewards for uploading their purchase information with Target, Walmart, Best Buy, RadioShack, GameStop, and others.

The report found that Nintendo’s Wii U still lagged way behind the Xbox One and PS4, accounting for just 6 percent of the sales. The PlayStation 3 accounted for a mere 1 percent Black Friday sales.
