Microsoft has rolled out updated Skype for Android and iOS versions bringing in a host of new features as well as improvements to the apps.
Microsoft has taken cues from Android’s ‘material design’ for its Skype 6.0 for Android making it aesthetically better and easier to use on Android phones.
There’s a new “floating action” button that makes it quicker for users to start a video call, audio call, chat, or send a video message. The button is overlaid on top of the screen.
The new version now boasts an upgraded search feature which lets users find their most important contacts and conversations much faster. Also, the new improved messaging feature shows how many unread messages users have and even makes it easier for them to identify what’s been read and what’s not.
Skype 6.0 for iPhone and iPad also has also been redesigned with new navigation controls allowing users to get through to their conversations faster. Swipe gestures can be used to quickly make calls and easily manage messages.
The new iOS Skype version also makes it easier for users to share photos, web links and emoticons while on voice or video calls and adds an enhanced search feature. In addition, users can now start group chats or group voice calls on their iPad.
The new 6.0 version of Skype for iPhone as well as Skype 6.0 for iPad are available in the Apple iTunes store. The 6.0 version of Skype for Android phones is available for download from the Google Play Store. All the apps are absolutely free to download.
Microsoft also shared that it is working on new Skype apps for Windows 10 Mobile, but did not offer much details.
