Microsoft has rolled out the preview versions of its Microsoft Office apps for Android tablets meaning that anyone with an Android tablet running version 4.4 or 5.0 with an ARM processor and a screen between 7- and 10.1-inches in size can now download Word, Excel and PowerPoint from the Google Play Store, without requiring any beta invite.
“Today, we are excited to announce that we are further expanding the preview. We want more feedback from more users to ensure that Office apps work well on a range of different Android tablets before launching the official apps. To participate in the preview, you can use an ARM-based Android tablet running KitKat or Lollipop, with a screen size between 7? and 10.1?. Starting today, anyone can go to Google Play and download the Word, Excel, and PowerPoint preview apps. No waitlist. No requesting access. Just go and download the apps!” Microsoft Office blog reads.
Redmond had previously made the preview available only to users who completed a survey back in November. However, now, interested users can try out the Microsoft Office preview apps before the final releases hit Google Play officially.
Notably, the preview, which was earlier restricted to only Android 4.4 KitKat, has now added support for the recently released Android 5.0 Lollipop as well.
Keep in mind this isn’t the final launch version. The Microsoft Office apps still remains in “Preview” mode for now as the software giant wants much more user feedback.
Microsoft is expected to make Office for Android tablets generally available sometime in early 2015.
Word for Android, Excel for Android and PowerPoint for Android are all now available for users to download from the Google Play Store. OneNote for Android tablets is also already available for download for free from the Play store.
