Microsoft has announced new, super-cheap mobile phone bearing the Nokia name, dubbed the Nokia 215. With a price tag of just £20 ($29), the internet-connected Nokia 215 aims to connect the “next billion people” with the internet.

Referred to as an “Internet-ready entry-level phone,” the Nokia 215 features a 2.4 inch QVGA screen, 8 MB Ram and micro SD card slot which can support 32 GB card, a 0.3 megapixel camera without flash and an 1100 mAh battery, which Microsoft claims will offer a standby time of up to 29 days and up to 20 hours of talk time on 2G networks.

The phone will run on the Nokia Series 30+ operating systems. Connectivity options include Bluetooth 3.0, GPRS, and Micro-USB. The handset also supports up to 50 hours of MP3 playback and a built-in torch. Weighing at around 79 grams, the Nokia 215 will come with a pre-loaded range of essential online services; including Facebook, Twitter, MSN Weather, Opera Mini Browser and Bing Search.

“With our ultra-affordable mobile phones and digital services, we see an inspiring opportunity to connect the next billion people to the Internet for the first time,” said Jo Harlow, corporate vice president of Microsoft Devices Group.

“The Nokia 215 is perfect for people looking for their first mobile device, or those wanting to upgrade to enjoy affordable digital and social media services, like Facebook and Messenger.”

The Nokia 215 will emerge in single and dual-SIM variants in the Middle East, Africa, Asia and Europe in the first quarter of this year. Both the variants will be available in Bright Green, Black, and White color options.
