Microsoft has denied any plans of launching cheaper Xbox One without a Blu-Ray drive.
According to Xbox chief Aaron Greenberg people shouldn’t believe everything they read. “No, you cannot believe everything you read on the internet..” tweeted Greenberg in a reply to question about the authenticity of a $399 Xbox One rumours.
Greenberg’s denial isn’t clear enough though and we are not sure if the Xbox chief is just denying the timeframe of shooting down the idea of a disc-less Xbox One completely.
A cheaper Xbox One came into the picture as detailed information about Microsoft’s plans were spilled on NeoGaf. Details included plans of a $399 Xbox One with no disc drive; 1TB White Xbox One; limited edition Titanfall console; and Sunset Overdrive among other things.
Wedbush analyst Michael Pachter believes that idea of such a console would be “one of the dumbest ideas of all time.” Pachter further believes that such a disc-less console will not only alienate some of Microsoft’s high-profile game retailers, but it will also demonstrate Redmond’s capability to release a console that has the same BOM as its $499 variant.
