Microsoft has announced it will release general version of Azure RemoteApp service starting next week. The Azure RemoteApp service allows users to deploy Windows apps in the cloud and access them from a variety of devices at anytime, anywhere. The app has been available as a free preview service since the beginning of the year.
The Microsoft Azure RemoteApp will get officially launched as a pay-as-you-go service on December 11. Preview users will be automatically moved to a 30-day free trial version, which will end on Jan. 11, 2015, and after this trial period a subscription will be needed. People will also be able to purchase Azure RemoteApp on a licensed basis from February 2015.
“Azure RemoteApp provides an effective solution for application delivery: Applications run in the Azure cloud and are accessed through the Microsoft Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP). Your employees can use corporate applications from anywhere and on a variety of devices including iOS, Mac OS X, Android, and Windows platforms. In addition, on the back end, the applications are securely managed, automatically scaling up or down to meet the changing needs of your businesses,” explains Microsoft.
The company will offer two different pricing plans- basic and standard. The Basic plan designed for “task workers” using simple Web apps will cost $10 per user per month and is capped at $17 per user per month. The plan includes 50GB of storage and 40 hours of use.
The Standard plan designed for information workers who use productivity apps such as Microsoft Office will cost $15 per user per hour and is capped at $23 per user per month. Overages will be charged at $0.175 per hour and $0.20 per hour for basic and standard plans respectively.
Microsoft is also expected to roll out a Volume Licensing plan by early next year.
