After Xbox One’s record breaking launch, Microsoft has acknowledged that there is some problem with the console’s optical drive and has promised a free game to all those who were affected because of this.
Some of the Xbox One owners reported that the disk drive is making very loud noises and in some cases is not reading discs at all. Many users opted to head onto Microsoft’s support forum to report the issue, while around 150 people contacted Kotaku claiming their new consoles were faulty. Some users even uploaded videos on Youtube apparently showing the problem to the gaming forum NeoGAF.
Microsoft responded stating that the issue wasn’t widespread and “is affecting a very small number of Xbox One customers”.
“We’re working directly with those affected to get a replacement console to them as soon as possible through our advance exchange programme.”
As a goodwill gesture, Microsoft is also offering a free game to all affected users as recompense for their patience. The faulty Xbox One owners will have the option to select and download Dead Rising 3, Forza Motorsport 5, Ryse: Son of Rome or Zoo Tycoon games for free.
“While a replacement console is on its way, we want to ensure our advance exchange customers can stay in the game. We will provide each of them with a free digital download of one of the launch titles published by Microsoft Studios”, read a statement from Microsoft notes Polygon.
The Xbox One which is Microsoft’s first new console in the last eight years has broken broke all previous Xbox first-day sales records when it was launched in the UK and 12 other countries last week.
