Microsoft recently revealed more than 50 million Lumia handsets have been activated worldwide till date. The Windows 10 maker made the announcement at a recent blogger event held in Germany.
The number includes all the Windows Phone devices since the launch of the Lumia product range in 2011. It is not clear as how many Lumia devices of those 50 million are still in use. However, according to Windows Phone cross-promotion network, Adduplex (via WMPoweruser), a 90 per cent of the Lumia handsets are in still in use globally.
Microsoft also revealed that there are more than 320,000 apps available in the Windows Phone Store, up from 300,000 recorded back in August. The figure is significantly below the one million+ apps currently available in in the Google Play store and the Apple App Store.
The Windows Phone 8 maker confirmed that there are around 560000 Windows Phone developers present in the world as of now. According to Microsoft’s updated ‘by the Numbers’ page, the Windows and Windows Phone Store combined have crossed the half a million apps mark as of September 30.
Last month, the software giant reported 9.3 million Lumia smartphone sales in the first full quarter since the close of the Nokia deal.
Microsoft has recently launched its first Lumia smartphone sans Nokia branding dubbed the Microsoft Lumia 535. The handset features 5-inch IPS LCD display with qHD (540×960 pixels) resolution; quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 200 processor clocked at 1.2GHz alongside 1GB of RAM; 8GB of built-in storage further expandable via microSD card (up to 128GB); 5-megapixel rear and front-facing camera, and 1905mAh battery to power it all. The Lumia 535 runs Windows Phone 8.1 with Lumia Denim update.
