Yahoo has acquired yet another company – this time it’s Incredible Labs, the startup behind Donna, a mobile personal assistant.
Yahoo has confirmed that five of the Incredible Labs team members will be joining Yahoo’s communications team in Sunnyvale, California where they will be working on Yahoo Mail. As part of the deal, Donna app will be shuttered. The financial terms of the deal are yet to be disclosed, but the deal will be sealed in the next few days, Yahoo said.
Kevin Cheng, Arshad Tayyeb, Spence Murray, Jesper Andersen, and Jason LeBrun are among the five hires. Scott San Filippo, Incredible Labs co-founder, will not be joining yahoo.
Donna, launched in 2013, is an incredible app, which reminds users of upcoming appointments, notifies them when to leave based upon the current traffic status, travel time, and the current location, and also dialing into conference calls.
Yahoo said: “We have reached an agreement to acquire Incredible Labs, the team behind personal assistant app, Donna. In case you haven’t heard of her, Donna’s pretty amazing – she has an immense amount of intellect, she keeps you on time and gives you the information you need, when you need it. For her clients, she’s the ultimate daily habit”.
“When we met with the team from Incredible Labs, it was an immediate fit. As we look to the future, our visions are aligned in that we think technology should be smart enough to think for us”.
“Five team members will join the Communications team in Sunnyvale at deal close, where they will work on Yahoo Mail. The transaction, which is subject to customary closing conditions, is expected to close in the next few days.”
This will be the internet giant’s second acquisition in a row this week after it announced acquisition of Tomfoolery.
“Today, we are announcing that Incredible Labs has entered into an agreement to be acquired by Yahoo. We’re looking forward to the possibilities that will come from bringing the Donna vision—letting technology take care of you—to Yahoo”, reads a statement on Donna website.
“The transaction, which is subject to customary closing conditions, is expected to close shortly. Following closing, Donna will be removed from the app store and discontinued as a service.”
