Google’s Project Tango tablet has made a quiet entry into the Play store with a “coming soon” tag meaning that the device should be available to other developers and probably general public soon enough.
Powered by NVIDIA Tegra K1 processor, the Project Tango slate features a 7-inch screen with 1,920 x 1,200 resolution and 323 ppi, 4GB RAM, 128GB of built-in memory, 4960mAh battery, dual front facing speakers, and full connectivity suite.
It’s got a motion-sensing camera and a 3D depth camera coupled with two computer vision processors. A 4-megapixel 2µm RGB-IR pixel camera sits on the back, coupled with 1-megapixel unit with IR LED in the front.
According to Google, the development kits have been specially designed for professional developers interested in exploring the future of mobile 3D sensing. It contains custom hardware and software that allow it to track 3D motion and capture geometry of the environment at the same time.
The Project Tango prototype, which was initially available to developers only during Google’s I/O conference, will be made available in both black and white color options and will ship running Android 4.4.2.
It is to be noted that the $1,024 tablet will not come with a warranty and returns for refund will not be accepted either.The Project Tango tablet is currently listed as “not for sale at this time” with no mention of the actual release date.
