Google+ gets new ‘Collections’ feature

Posted on 5 May 2015

Google has rolled out a new Google+ feature dubbed ‘Collections’, which will let users create a group of photos, videos, and links categorized around specific interests and then share them with other people in their Circles.

“Our happiest Google+ users are those who connect with others around shared interests and passions. So we set out to give people a place to express the things they love. Today, we’re announcing Google+ Collections, a new way to group your posts by topic,” Google noted announcing the new feature via a Google+ post.

According to the search giant, once a user creates a collection, their Google+ profile will display a new tab where others can find and follow their shared collections. It remains with the user to decide whether to share a Collection publicly, keep it private, or share with a limited number of people. The feature is similar to the one already offered by rival social network Pinterest.

“Posts in collections you follow will appear in your Home stream, with a link to easily jump right into the collection so you can get to similar content from that author. Collections give you a great way to find more of the stuff you love from the people you follow,” notes Google+ post.

The Collections feature also allows users to customize background color of their grouped posts as well as offers an option to add a cover photo.

Google has confirmed that Collections is now available on Android and the Web, and will arrive later on iOS.

To create a new Collection on Google+ Web and Android, user will need to navigate and select the Collections option on the Google+ profile homepage and then tap ‘Create collection’ option.
