Latest reports claim that Samsung Galaxy S5 will feature a different type of large fingerprint sensor embedded on the device’s screen itself.
According to a report on iTechAddict, the fingerprint sensor can be used by touching anywhere on the screen. The information seems to be leaked by an insider within Samsung India R&D, who said the fingerprint sensor is being implemented in a new and creative way.
A different report from EtNews backed up this report claiming that industry sources revealed the fingerprint sensor will allow users to unlock the phone and access secure data by swipe gesture anywhere on the smartphone’s screen. Samsung is believed to have developed the fingerprint recognition module in-house rather than relying on any third party.
The insider, who has a pretty good track record of Samsung leaks before, has also confirmed that the new device sports a 5.25-inch QHD display 2K ultra high-resolution screen. Galaxy S5 will ditch the physical and capacitive buttons, will pack a new octo-core Exynos 6 chipset or a Snapdragon 805 SoC, 3GB RAM, 32/64 GB storage and a 16-megapixel rear camera.
Earlier this week, the company has sent out invitations for its UNPACKED 5 event on the same date when Mobile World Congress kicks off, hinting at Galaxy S5 unveil. The new flagship device of the company is expected to be powered by Android 4.4 Kitkat OS, with possibly a new user interface. Samsung, however, has not confirmed any of these details or features.
