Flappy Bird: New Season might not be from original creator Dong Nguyen

Posted on 3 April 2014

Flappy Bird: New Season has managed to top the UK’s free iPhone charts, but it seems that the game may not be from the original creator Dong Nguyen after all as quite a few things don’t add up.

Consider for example the developer of Flappy Bird: New Season – its Animated Emoji. This is definitely not Nguyen; however, the listing does come with a copyright attributed to dotGears – “© dotGears” – which is the trading name of Nguyen.

Secondly, the game hasn’t been released from Nguyen’s original developer account using which the original Flappy Bird title was published. The developer account still has Nguyen’s other titles Shuriken Block and Super Ball Juggling listed.

Third, there has been no official announcement on Nguyen’s Twitter account. There is an alleged backup twitter account in Nguyen’s name with a tweet “I BROUGHT FLAPPY BIRD BACK GO ON THE APP STORE FLAPPY BIRD NEW SEASON”. We are not sure of the authenticity of this backup Twitter account or the tweet.

If Nguyen would have actually published the game, why would he be silent about it instead of letting eager fans known about a successor?

Fourth clicking on the support link on the App Store brings up nothing apart from a blank page on Weebly.

There is an Android counterpart as well, but that one is from some developer named Gameslogic Mobile, which is credited to developing dodgy and rip-off successors of popular games.

Nguyen removed the original Flappy Bird from the App Store in early February. The Flappy Bird developer did spill the beans on his intention of bringing back the title. At the time he however stressed that the game will not return any time soon, so a title within 10 days of the original resurrection announcement doesn’t also bode well.

Flappy bird was a hit! But there are far more better flappy editions out there I would say that Fat Bird – Flappy Flyer is the best one on the App Store! It offers you Smooth Glide Controls which are really cool instead of traditional “tap tap flap flap”

It is all about clever ways to create a tension and indeed attention. And then the willing freely go where no one was pushed.
Politicos and corporates do it all the time. What is there to get in a flap about?
