Fitbit, the fitness smartband maker company, has confirmed that it is developing an app dedicated to Windows Phone 8.1.
The FitBit wristband maker confirmed the news on its community forum via WPCentral in a short statement which read “Fitbit is developing an application for Windows Phone 8.1. Thank you for all your feedback and support!”
Until now, the app was only available on iOS and Android platforms, which constitute for more than 90 percent of the smartphone market.
The Windows Phone platform was generally avoided by accessory makers mostly due to the lack of popularity of the platform, which made it difficult for the app makers to incur the cost of developing and maintaining the app. Technical limitations on previous Windows versions also prevented developers from developing such fitness apps on the platform.
However, the latest Windows Phone 8.1 update is free from all sorts of limitations and therefore one can expect more apps landing on the platform in near future. Moreover, Windows Phone 8.1 has also introduced support for Bluetooth 4 LE, which all current FitBit models use to connect to phones.
FitBit, apart from confirming the app, has not disclosed any other information related to the app. The availability or the release date of the app is still pretty much unclear.
