Facebook has rolled out an ‘Anonymous Login’ feature which will let users log into apps without sharing their personal information.
The new feature offer users a greater choice over whatever information they would want to share with websites and apps when they log in using their Facebook ID. They can however choose to share any additional information, if they prefer, at a later stage.
“Sometimes people want to try out apps, but they’re not ready to share any information about themselves. For this, we’re introducing a way to log in to apps anonymously,” Facebook noted in a blog post.
“Anonymous Login lets people log in to apps so they don’t have to remember usernames and passwords, but it doesn’t share personal information from Facebook. People can decide later if they want to share any additional information, once they understand more about the app.”
The Anonymous Login feature is currently being tested with a few developers, and Facebook plans to extend it to more developers in the coming months.
The social networking giant also announced a new version of Facebook Login that gives people the option to pick and choose what information apps get by checking or unchecking categories one by one. Furthermore, it also refrains the app to post to Facebook without Facebook’s permission.
Facebook has also revamped it’s App Control Panel and has announced a newly designed dashboard where people can see a list of apps they use, manage specific permissions, or remove apps entirely.
The social giant has confirmed that the new Login will get released in the next few months and the updated app control panel will be available in the coming weeks.
