Facebook is likely trying to develop its chat service Facebook Messenger as a stand-alone chat app and has updated the app with a feature to doodle on and annotate the images sent via Messenger.
Currently, the Android version has received the update and the app is ready for download on Google Play.
To doodle on an image the user wants to share with their friends, the camera icon at the bottom of the chat window can be tapped to pull up the photo roll of the user’s device. Upon choosing a photo, the user can then click on the sharp marker or the Aa button to doodle or add an annotation to the picture.
After doodling or annotating, the image can be sent to the friend whom they want to share it with. However, the photos taken with the selfie camera embedded in the Messenger doesn’t seem to let users annotate or doodle as they are sent immediately to the friend.
Facebook is also said to be testing other features such as posting stickers on comments. The stickers icon would be displayed next to the images icon on the comments bar and tapping on it would open the set of default and downloaded stickers of the user to choose one from it.
As of now, the update has been rolled out only to the Android version of the Messenger app and the other versions such as iOS, Windows, etc might be updated soon.
