Facebook has introduced a ‘Donate Now’ button which will be displayed on the Facebook pages of non-profit organizations to help them promote their public donation campaigns.
It is to be noted that the new Donate Now button will be available only for pages that are categorized as non-profit organizations. The feature will make it easier for nonprofits to connect with people who care about their causes and encourage them to contribute through the website of their choice.
The button will be available for both pages as well as link ads. It will show up right on top of the page, next to the Like button.
On clicking the ‘Donate Now’ button, users will see a warning message displayed that reads “Make a donation to show your support. Not endorsed by or affiliated with Facebook.” The disclaimer suggests that the donations aren’t handled by Facebook in any manner.
On clicking on the Continue option, users are redirected outside the Facebook website to the non-profit’s donation page where the donation can be made. This may be the organization’s own website, an e-banking interface, or a PayPal donation page. Users can try the feature on the ALS Association Facebook Page.
Previously, Facebook had rolled out a “Donate” button in late 2013 with specific partners like the American Cancer Society and The Red Cross. The social networking giant also used the button during the Nepal floods to raise huge money.
