Evasi0n7 iOS 7 jailbreak to get up-to-date Cydia, abandon TaiG

Posted on 24 December 2013

The controversy surrounding backdoors, piracy app store and untested Cydia in evad3rs’ latest evasi0n7 iOS 7 jailbreak may all soon evaporate into thin air as pod2g has confirmed that they will be removing TaiG’s packages and Jay Freeman will be fixing Cydia and MobileSubstrate for the latest jailbreak.

Evad3rs were are at the receiving end of a lot of controversy and heat surrounding their decision of including a piracy app store in Chinese version of the evasi0n7 iOS 7 jailbreak and not including a tested and up-to-date version of Cydia.

Users flocked all social media and networking sites to vent their anger and some even claimed that evad3rs were now busy minting money by accepting offers without caring about the jailbreak community.

In an open letter, Evad3rs clarified their stand on the piracy app store and Cydia and their decision to stop the default installation of the TaiG piracy app store until they carried out further investigation.

As it stands, both the burning issues will be given a cold shower treatment as Pod2g, one of the members of evad3rs team, has confirmed over a tweet that they will be updating the iOS 7 jailbreak tool and remove TaiG’s packages.

On being asked “@pod2g so why not you guys update evasiOn7 and remove TaiG’ packages , so that people feel secure while jailbreaking their device”, pod2g replied, “@rishab50 we will do it, or I am out of the game.”

Further, when asked “@pod2g were u able to contact saurik?” pod2g replied “@Adhip999 yes, we had a really friendly call. I am pretty sure @saurik will come with some fixes for you guys quick!”

This means that iOS 7 users who are eagerly waiting for a clean evasi0n7 iOS 7 jailbreak and up-to-date Cydia won’t have to wait for long.

I just downloaded Evasi0n7 and ran it on my 5S with iOS 7.0.4 and it ran perfectly, and installed Cydia. I launched Cydia, and it seemingly operated smoothly, although I did not try to install any of my favorite JB apps yet, because my impression is that they may not be updated for iOS7 yet. Cydia prepared the file system, the iPhone rebooted, and Cydia opens and looks as normal as ever.

Everyone says that after jailbreaking you must be careful of what you download, because it is easier to introduce malware to your phone. Can anyone provide an example of some malicious tweaks, apps, etc., that pose a threat? (I already know about the openSSH ordeal, which occured in 2009.)

The mobilesubstrate is a big issue on cydia right now, anything at attaches into your general options does not work. Bridge being one of the big ones for me
