Everything Everywhere has launched an advanced version of its 4G network dubbed 4G+ capable of 150Mbps speeds in Central London.
The new LTE-A network makes use of the operator’s 2.6GHz high capacity spectrum to offer superfast mobile data speeds of up to 150Mbps and regular speeds of around 90Mbps, which is five times faster the average UK broadband speed of 17.8Mbps.
EE 4G+ has been immediately rolled out to 150 London sites including Shoreditch, Old Street, Southbank, Soho, Westminster and Kensington, while the same will be extended to Greater London by June 2015, with major cities including Liverpool, Birmingham and Manchester to add to the list later this year. The Samsung Alpha and Note 4 are currently the only two compatible devices to have access to the superfast connectivity.
“The UK is now back to being a world leader in mobile networks,” said EE’s chief executive Olaf Swantee.
“Just two years since we were behind every developed market from the US to Japan, we’ve invested in innovation, driven competition and given people in London a mobile network that’s as faster than almost any other in the world, and even faster than most fibre broadband available here,” Swantee added.
The operator also announced it has added another 19 towns to its 4G connectivity coverage with Warwick being the 300th in the UK to receive the connectivity. Alexandria (Scotland), Banbury, Biggleswade, Blaydon, Catterick Garrison, Cookstown (Northern Ireland), Garforth, Greenock, Holmfirth, Limavady (Northern Ireland), Maltby, Oxted, Penicuik (Scotland), Tring, Waltham Cross, Warminster, Winterbourne, and Ystrad Mynach (Wales) are the other 18 new towns to get 4G coverage switched on this month.
EE currently has over 75 percent of the UK population under its 4G coverage with six million subscribers and 300 UK towns and cities having access to 4G speeds.
