Disney World is Apple Pay’s new destination

Posted on 23 December 2014

Walt Disney World on Sunday announced it will begin supporting Apple Pay digital payment service at its resort from Wednesday.

Disney has expanded the mobile payment concept with support for not only Apple Pay but for other contactless payments, including Google Wallet and contactless RFID credit cards as well.

The launch will let visitors use Apple Pay, Google Wallet and tap-to-pay credit cards to buy tickets, shop at stores and order from both bars and fast service restaurants. Venues that currently support portable payment terminals, such as table service restaurants, will be added later.

Visitors to Walt Disney World will be able to check which areas accept Apple Pay and similar payment methods by looking for an EMVCo symbol. Apple Pay is expected to make its way to the Disneyland California resort sometime next year.

Apple’s digital payment service dubbed Apple Pay was announced alongside the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus back in September. The service signed one million subscribers in just its first three days of use.

Cupertino recently announced that Apple Pay, which is currently only available in the US, now supports 90 percent of all credit cards transactions in the country. Apple Pay has also signed up with Ticketmaster, one of the world’s leading ticket sale sites, to add support for the contactless payment service in its iOS app.
