Dell has rolled out Wyse Cloud Connect, a portable HDMI dongle that can toss up any HDMI or MHL enabled display into a thin client. With this Cloud Connect, clients can access systems via Microsoft RDP, Citrix, VMware thin clients, the Web, or even through the apps available in the Google Play store. This device, available at $129, was first unveiled in January 2013 with the code name Project Ophelia.
Steve Lalla, vice president and general manager of Dell’s cloud client computing business described it as a ‘real game-changing product.’
Dell Wyse Cloud Connect runs on Android Jelly Bean and offers complete access to the cloud. This new stick can be connected to any display with HDMI or MHL port to gain access to desktops, data, corporate networks and apps and also offers BlueTooth or mini USB connectivity for other devices like keyboard and mouse. This device also offers 802.11n dual-band Wi-Fi connectivity.
The new Dell Wyse Cloud Connect comes with pre-loaded PocketCloud software that assists in quick and secure remote access to physical or virtual desktop assets. This device supports Microsoft, Citrix and VMware virtualized desktop environments, and offering remote access to PCs running on Windows as well as Apple Mac.
Cloud Connect, powered by a Cortex-A9 ARM SoC, comes with the HD and 3D graphics ability, packs 8GB of internal storage, 1GB RAM and also a microSD slot supporting up to 72GB of additional space. Dell Wyse Cloud Connect is now available for purchase on Dell’s website.
