Google has announced that Chromebook users will be able to install a Chrome plugin that will enable them to enjoy video content from the Play Store even while they are offline.
Google revealed that Google Play Movies & TV Chrome app now supports offline playback by utilising local storage.
“The new Google Play Movies & TV Chrome app makes your favorite movies and TV shows on your Chromebook available any time, anywhere – even without a WiFi connection”, announced Google in a Google+ post.
“In addition to offline mode on Chrome OS, it also brings Info Cards and an improved Chromecast and local playback experience to anyone watching movies through the Chrome browser”, added Google.
The feature is only limited to Chromebook users for now and Chrome browser users on other platforms will still require internet connectivity to view video content from Play Services.
Though offline video playback option may not seem like a great deal in the world where Wi-Fi connectivity is a common occurrence, there are times when you will be completely out of luck with no Wi-Fi hotspot in sight.
In other Chromebook news, Google has sold a whopping 32,000 Chromebooks to Chesterfield County Schools. The schools will be purchasing the Chromebooks from local partner TIG that will provide training to users and ensure that students; teachers and administrators utilise Google’s technology to the fullest.
