BBC viewers, who tried to access the popular iPlayer video-on-demand service over the weekend, were disappointed to find that a technical glitch had affected the service since 10am on Saturday which continued over the weekend.
Viewers witnessed some error messages when they were unable to access the iPlayer service and other online services including the BBC.co.uk homepage.
The maintenance message on BBC’s homepage stated that due to some technical problems it was operating a “simplified” version of the homepage and that they are constantly working to restore normal service as soon as possible.
While the error message on the iPlayer page stated that a technical problem has led the BBC iPlayer to be temporarily unavailable and asked users to try again later.
Users who experienced the issue took it to the social blogging service Twitter where the broadcaster tweeted a message: “We’re hoping to get @BBCiPlayer @BBCiPlayerRadio & @bbccouk up and running for all of you soon. We apologise for the inconvenience. #iPlayer.”
Although the BBC News website seemed to be working normally on Sunday afternoon, some online users reported errors while accessing BBC webpages, including SpringWatch and World Cup 2014.
A BBC spokesman said the company is aware of the technical glitch causing the issue and that it is working hard to fix it as soon as possible.
Total number of users affected by the technical glitch remained unavailable.
