Apple to update MacBook Pro Retina line with 3 new 16GB RAM models

Posted on 28 July 2014

Apple is soon expected to update its MacBook Pro Retina line with 15-inch MacBook Pro Retina model variants, claims a new leak.

In-store signage images from China suggest that all upcoming 15-inch MacBook Pro Retina models from Apple, even the entry level models, will be packed with faster Haswell processors and standard 16GB of RAM.

The alleged picture details configurations of three new MacBook Pro Retina laptop variants featuring faster Intel Core i7 chips and increased RAM.

The entry level 15-inch MacBook Pro variant will feature a 2.2GHz Intel Core i7 CPU and 16GB of RAM compared to the 2.0GHz Intel Core i7 and 8GB of RAM in the current base model 15-inch Retina MacBook Pro. The model also features a 256GB SSD and Intel’s integrated Iris Pro graphics.

The mid-range 15-inch MacBook Pro variant will house a 2.5GHz Intel Core i7 processor and the same 16GB of RAM, up from the current 2.3GHz Intel Core i7 processor. It will also feature an Nvidia GeForce GT 750M discrete graphics card with 2GB of GDDR5 memory.

The high-end 15-inch MacBook Pro variant will come with a 2.8GHz Intel Core i7 CPU, 16GB of memory, 1TB SSD and Intel Iris Pro and Nvidia GeForce GT 750M graphics.

If the leaked signage is to be believed, then Apple might choose to keep MacBook Pro prices steady. The chart lists the three new versions of the 15-Inch Retina MacBook Pro at costs of 14,288 Yuan ($2308.59), 18,688 Yuan ($3019.53) and 23,688 Yuan ($3827.41) respectively.

Although there is no information on the product’s release date, the new MacBook Pro Retina line is expected to arrive sometime around September.
