Apple refreshes iMacs with Haswell, 802.11ac, improved PCIe flash

Apple brought out a new fresh version of its iMac all-in-one desktop line of products on Tuesday. Latest Intel fourth generation quad-core Haswell processors, next-gen 802.11ac Wi-Fi, new graphics, faster and improved PCIe flash storage are some of the new additions made to the latest iMac products.

A 2.7GHz quad-core Intel Core i5 processor (turbo boost speed of 3.2GHz) and new Iris Pro graphics powers the entry level 21.5-inch iMac priced at $1,299. iMac with a 2.9GHz quad-core Intel Core i5 processor and turbo boost speed of 3.6 GHz with Nvidia GeForce GT 750M will be available for $1,499.

The 27-inch iMac with 3.2GHz quad-core Intel Core i5 and up to 3.6GHz turbo boost speed along with a Nvidia GeForce GTX 755M will be available for $1,799 and the 27-inch iMac with quad-core 3.4GHz Intel Core i5 processor with turbo boost speed of up to 3.8GHz and Nvidia GeForce GTX 775M is priced at $1,999.

While upgrading the new fresh iMac line, Apple has put more emphasis on the speed factor. According to Apple, the new iMac products, when connected to an 802.11ac base station will get a wireless performance three times faster than the previous generation desktops.

All the iMacs will carry 8GB RAM and 1TB storage by default with options to upgrade to up to 32GB RAM and 3TB storage. The iMacs will be running Mac OS X Mountain Lion, will sport two Thunderbolt and four USB 3.0 ports.
