Amazon has announced its new “fully managed, secure enterprise storage and sharing service” dubbed Zocalo in limited preview at highly competitive pricing pegging it directly against the likes of Box and Dropbox.
In Amazon’s own words Zocalo allows users to “store, share, and gather feedback on documents, spreadsheets, presentations, webpages, images, PDFs, or text files – from the device of their choice.”
Some of the features of the new secure cloud storage solution include Easy Sharing; Accessibility from any device; feedback system; central file hub; and availability with Amazon Workspaces.
Enterprises with Active Directory in their environments can integrate it with Zocalo to provide authentication to users with the same credentials as their AD.
When it comes to pricing, the new service is highly competitive. Enterprises have to shell out just $5 per user for 200GB storage and the billing happens for active user accounts only. Enterprises who are not sure if the new service works for them can avail a 30-day free trial with 50 users.
Amazon Workspace customers are in for a huge discount as Amazon will only charge $2 for 200GB storage and if they opt for just 50GB storage, they don’t have to pay anything.
There are quite a few companies that provide such services, but Amazon is banking on the fact that there are quite a few enterprises which are still using on-premise storage solutions and are paying hefty amount for the same.
